«Deputy Viktor Novoselov murdered in St. Petersburg today»
«Deputy of the Municipal Legislative Assembly, Viktor Novoselov was killed today in St. Petersburg. As became known, around 9:00 Moscow time, at the corner of Frunze Street and Moskovsky Prospect an explosive device was thrown by an unknown perpetrator into the Volvo service car in which the deputy, along with his bodyguard, was riding to work (according to other sources the bomb was thrown onto the roof of the car). The bodyguard was able to jump out of the car and open fire on the perpetrators, but he was wounded and at the present moment is in the hospital. V. Novoselov died, his head had been severed. The head of the Municipal Department of Internal Affairs of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Oblast arrived at the scene of the crime. The surrounding streets have been closed of. «Сегодня в Санкт-Петербурге был убит депутат Законодательного собрания города Виктор Новоселов. Как стало известно, около 9:00 мск на углу ул. Фрунзе и Московского проспекта в служебную автомашину Volvo, в которой депутат вместе с охранником ехал на работу, неизвестный преступник бросил взрывное устройство (по другим сведениям, бомба была сброшена на крышу автомобиля). Охраннику удалось выскочить из машины и открыть стрельбу по преступникам, но он был ранен и в настоящий момент находится в больнице. В. Новоселов погиб, ему оторвало голову. На место происшествия прибыл начальник ГУВД по Санкт-Петербургу и Ленинградской области, близлежащие улицы оцеплены. Ведется следствие.» (РБК, 11:22:48, 20.10.1999)
